Get the first draft out of your head
The slowest part of writing is the blank page. Talking gets you past it. Dictate a rough draft in a few minutes, then edit it with the keyboard the way you normally would. JustSpeak types plain text, so your document stays a normal document.
Built for long stretches
- Up to ten minutes per dictation, enough for a couple of pages. A notice at nine minutes tells you to wrap up, and at ten your words are typed.
- “New line” and “new paragraph” do what they say. “Comma”, “full stop”, “question mark” and “exclamation mark” work too.
- Verbatim mode for quotes and transcripts, Clean for everything else.
- Add the names and terms in your document to the Dictionary and they come out right from the first page.
Any editor, no plug-in
Word, Google Docs, Pages, LibreOffice, Notion, Obsidian, Apple Notes, Scrivener, a plain text file. JustSpeak puts the words where the cursor is, the same way pasting does, so it works in all of them and keeps working after they update.
How it works
- Click where you want to write. An email, a document, a chat box, a form.
- Tap Ctrl + Space and talk the way you'd talk to a person.
- Tap it again. Your words appear where the cursor was, punctuation and all.
That's the whole app. The shortcut is yours to change, and you can hold it down instead of tapping if you prefer push-to-talk.
What it costs
Start with 30 free minutes, no card. After that it's $8 a month, $59 a year, or $99 once for life. Every paid plan is unlimited dictation on your own computers. If a disability or painful hands make typing hard, email support@justspeak.live and we'll take 20% off any plan.
Questions
- Does it format headings or bold text?
- No. It types plain text with sentences and paragraphs. Formatting stays a keyboard job, which keeps it predictable.
- Does Google Docs need anything special?
- No. Click into the document in your browser and dictate. Google Docs has its own voice typing too, which only works in Chrome and only in Docs; JustSpeak works in every browser and every app.
- Does it need the internet?
- Yes. Your recording goes to our speech partner, comes back as text, and isn't kept. There's no offline mode.
- Is my audio stored?
- No. Recordings are turned into text and then dropped. Keeping a history of your transcripts is optional and off by default.
- How long can I talk in one go?
- Up to ten minutes. At nine minutes a small notice warns you, and at ten JustSpeak types what you've said so far.
